Topic: Gentle and Lowly Passage: Romans 5:5–55

112821 - “God Poured Out His Love For Us” Romans 5:5-11. “This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For while we were still helpless, at the appointed moment, Christ died for the ungodly. For rarely will someone die for a just person—though for a good person perhaps someone might even dare to die. But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us! Much more then, since we have now been declared righteous by His blood, we will be saved through Him from wrath. For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, then how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by His life! And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have now received this reconciliation through Him.”

Sermon In A Sentence: God’s love for His children is neither limited by our acts
of sin; nor does it have an expiration date.

God Poured Out His Love For Us:
-In our hearts through the Holy Spirit (v.5)
-While we were helpless & ungodly (v.6)
-While we were still sinners (v.8)

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, all things have become new” -2 Corinthians 5:17

“If you love Me, you will keep My commands” -John 14:15

“If you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live” -Romans 8:13

Romans 6:1-2 “What should we say then? Should we continue in sin so that grace may multiply? Absolutely not! How can we who died to sin still live in it?”

Romans 8:35, 37-39 “Who can separate us from the love of Christ? In all these things we are more than victorious through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that not even death or life, angels or rulers, things present or things to come, hostile powers, height or depth, or any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!”

2 Thessalonians 3:5 “May the Lord direct your hearts to God’s love and Christ’s endurance.”

“Our very agony in sinning is the fruit of our adoption… When you sin, do a thorough job of repenting. Re-hate your sin all over again. Consecrate yourself afresh to the Holy Spirit and His pure ways. But reject the devil’s whisper that God’s tender heart for you has grown a little colder, a little stiffer. He is not flustered by your sinfulness. His deepest disappointment is with your tepid thoughts of his heart.” -p.194, Gentle and Lowly
