January 21, 2024 Pastor: Lucas Sullivan Series: Special Messages MBC

Topic: Christian Growth Passage: 1 Peter 2:11–12

012124...“As Sojourners and Exiles..” 1 Peter 2:11-12
Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation...1 Peter 2:11-12

But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control...Philippians 3:20-21

As sojourners and exiles in this world, we are called to:
-Guard our hearts

--Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it...Proverbs 4:23
--Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour...1 Peter 5:8
--Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation...1 Peter 2:12

As sojourners and exiles in this world, we are called to:
-Guard our hearts
-Live to honor Christ

--Do all things without grumbling or disputing, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world...Philippians 2:14-15

-Live to win souls for Christ

--“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven...Matthew 5:14-16
--Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation...1 Peter 2:12

Sermon in a Sentence: As Christians, who understand that this world is not our home, we must live in the reality of our eternal heavenly citizenship now.
