082723...“You, Who Were Dead”...Colossians 2:13-15
“As a culture, we have philosophically walked away from holy. Holy is not in our definition of meaning and purpose. Holy doesn’t enter into our concept of success. Holy is not seen as something to shape your marriage & guide your parenting. Holy never is discussed when people are talking about plans for their careers. Holy is viewed as a dusty religious concept with little practical meaning, held on to by a shrinking minority.” -Paul David Tripp, Do You Believe? p.109
“(Sins) presence means temptation is all around, leaving you susceptible to its draw. It causes young people to demand their own way & to lose their way. It corrupts our institutions, creates social unrest, prompts nations to war, and divides families & churches. It gives falsehood a platform & foolishness the power to seduce… Yes, sin truly is humanity’s ultimate disease, its dark dilemma & its woeful curse.” -Paul David Tripp, Do You Believe? p.279
Colossians 1:13-14...“He (God) has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins”
Colossians 1:21-22...“And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, He (Jesus) has now reconciled in His body of flesh by His death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before Him.”
Colossians 2:9-12...“For in Him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily & you have been filled in Him, who is the head of all rule & authority. In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised with Him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised Him from the dead.”
Colossians 2:13-15...“And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This He set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in Him”
Sermon In A Sentence:It is because of God’s character that He could not forgive our sin until His righteousness was satisfied by Jesus’ death on the cross.
