John 14:6...“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’”

Matthew 5:33-37...“Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.’ But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. And do not take an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil”

Sermon In A Sentence: Don’t tell the truth because you’ve taken an oath; but tell the truth because you always tell the truth.

Regarding Taking An Oath:
-Jesus is not teaching that it’s wrong to take an oath
-Jesus is teaching that you can’t compartmentalize God out of your life
-Jesus is teaching us to always be a promise keeper
-Jesus is teaching us to always tell the truth

Genesis 22:16-17...“By Myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son, indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is on the seashore”

Ezekiel 20:6...“On that day I swore to them,” God said, “that I would bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them”

Hebrews 6...V.13-14 “For when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, saying, “I will surely bless you and I will surely multiply you.”
-V.17 “So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath.”

2 Corinthians 1:23...“But I call God to witness against me—it was to spare you that I refrained from coming again to Corinth”
