April 17, 2022 - Mourning and Rejoicing in the Cross - Matthew 9: 14-17

April 17, 2022 Pastor: Terry Embke Series: The Life of Jesus Christ

Topic: Study of the Life of Christ Passage: Matthew 9:14–17

041722 - “Mourning & Rejoicing In The Cross” Matthew 9:14-17.....
Titus 3:5 “He (God) saved us— not by works of righteousness that we had done, but according to His mercy.”

Matthew 9:14 “Then John’s disciples came to Him (Jesus), saying, ‘Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?’”

Sermon In A Sentence: Jesus taught that only as we live life in Him will we experience the greatest joy for which our soul longs.

Matthew 9:14 “Then John’s disciples came to Him (Jesus), saying, ‘Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?’”

Matthew 9:15-17 “Jesus said to them, ‘Can the wedding guests be sad while the groom is with them? The time will come when the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast. No one patches an old garment with unshrunk cloth, because the patch pulls away from the garment and makes the tear worse. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the skins burst, the wine spills out, and the skins are ruined. But they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved”

Jesus’ Advent:
-Brought rejoicing like a wedding celebration
-Brought mourning when He was taken
-Brought a new covenant better than the old

Luke 22:20 “Jesus also took the cup after supper and said, ‘This cup is the new covenant established by My blood; it is shed for you’”
