June 8, 2024 Pastor: Terry Embke Series: God's Transforming Power and Grace

Topic: God's Transforming Power and Grace Passage: Psalm 24:10

060924...“The King of Glory”...Psalm 24:10

Psalm 24:1...“The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein”

“In The Beginning God” Declares That:
-God existed before everything that exists
-God created everything that exists
-God does not need anything that exists
-God sustains everything that exists
-God is sovereign over everything that exists

What Is The Glory Of God?
-“God’s glory is the greatness, beauty, and perfection of all that He is.”
-“The glory of God is the visible manifestation of His character and presence.”
-Hebrews 1:3- Jesus’ life manifested God’s glory

Hebrews 1:3...“He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high”

2 Corinthians 3
...v.14— “…only through Christ is it taken away”
...v.18— “With unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit”

What Is Vainglory?
-Attempting to “show off your own goodness”
-To display your own goodness in ways that undercut both it & the glory due to God for it
-The desire to hear the praise of men; to feel the need to be complimented

Sermon In A Sentence: When we seek the praise of men we become guilty of vainglory; and we sabotage God’s sanctification work in us.

Psalm 24:1...“The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein”

Psalm 24:10...“Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory!”

Who Is The King Of Glory?
-God’s glory belongs to Him alone
-God’s glory requires Him to be God-centered
-God’s glory will not be shared with another
-God’s glory demands our humility
-God’s glory is to be reflected in us

Psalm 148:13...“Let them praise the name of the Lord, for His name alone is exalted; His glory is above earth and heaven.”

Judge 1:25...“To the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever.”

“For human beings, self-worship is the worst sin, for God it is the epitome of His righteousness.” -Scott Christensen ...What About Evil?

1 Corinthians 4:7...“What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it?”

Isaiah 42:8...“I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols.”

Proverbs 6:16-19...“These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look…”

Psalm 115:1...“Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory”

2 Corinthians 5:15...“He died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.”

Sermon In A Sentence: When we seek the praise of men we become guilty of vainglory; and we sabotage God’s sanctification work in us.
