The “Gospel” -Means: “Good News”
--“euangelion” is the Greek word
--“eu”= good or pleasing
--“angelion”= message
The Gospel: God, who is holy & hates sin & judges sinners, imputes our sin to Jesus & credits His righteousness to our account when we repent of our sin & trust Jesus’ work on the cross to save, sanctify & glorify us.
Sermon In A Sentence: It is the good news of Jesus’ Gospel, that our justification & our sanctification & our glorification is accomplished by God’s work alone.
Philippians 1:6...“I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus”
2 Corinthians 12:9-11...“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.’ Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me. So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, catastrophes, persecutions, and in pressures, because of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
“Key Verse” In Colossians...“I am saying this so that no one will deceive you with
persuasive arguments.” -Chapter 2, verse 4
Colossians 1:3-8...“We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel, which has come to you, as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and increasing— as it also does among you, since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth, just as you learned it from Epaphras our beloved fellow servant. He is a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf and has made known to us your love in the Spirit.”
“The original destiny of humanity is realized in the gospel and in our growing likeness to Jesus.” -David Mathis, Rich Wounds
In Jesus’ Gospel There Is:-The power to change your life
-The potential for change in others
-The hope of eternal life in heaven
-The truth of God’s grace revealed
-The necessity that it be proclaimed
Colossians 2:13-15...“And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him”
1 Timothy 1:15...“This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.”
Romans 10:14...“But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?” (NLT)
