021923-“Warnings Against Hypocrisy”...Luke 12:1-12

Luke 12:1...“In the meantime, a crowd of many thousands came together, so that they were trampling on one another. Jesus began to say to His disciples first: ‘Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees,
which is hypocrisy.”

1 John 1:7-9...“The blood of Jesus, God’s Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we say, ‘We have no sin,’ we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”

Sermon In A Sentence:A hypocrite tries to deceive people into thinking that they are something spiritually that God knows they are not.

3 John 1:9...“I have written something to the church, but Diotrephes, who likes to put himself first, does not acknowledge our authority”

Luke 11:53-54...“When He left there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose Him fiercely and to cross-examine Him about many things; they were lying in wait for Him to trap Him in something He said”

Luke 12:1-3...“In the meantime, a crowd of many thousands came together, so that they were trampling on one another. Jesus began to say to His disciples first: ‘Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. There is nothing covered that won’t be uncovered, nothing hidden that won’t be made known. Therefore, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in an ear in private rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.”

Jesus Teaches Those Who Desire To Be His Disciple That:
-Hypocrisy, like leaven in bread, will invade your entire life (v.1-3)
-Hypocrisy causes you to fear men more than God (v.4-7)
-Hypocrisy will lead you to deny Jesus Christ (v.8-12)

1 Samuel 16:7...“For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Proverbs 24:12...“Does not He who weighs the heart consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?”

Luke 12:4-7...“And I say to you, My friends, don’t fear those who kill the body, and after that can do nothing more. But I will show you the One to fear: Fear Him who has authority to throw people into hell after death. Yes, I say to you, this is the One to fear! Aren’t five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God’s sight. Indeed, the hairs of your head are all counted. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows”

Proverbs 9:10...“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding”

Proverbs 1:7...“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

Luke 12:8-12...“And I say to you, anyone who acknowledges Me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God, but whoever denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. Whenever they bring you before synagogues and rulers and authorities, don’t worry about how you should defend yourselves or what you should say. For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that very hour what must be said”

John 3:19-21...“This is the judgment: that the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God”
