Be Reconciled With Your Brother - Matthew 5:21-26

July 10, 2022 Pastor: Terry Embke Series: The Life of Jesus Christ

Topic: Study of the Life of Christ Passage: Matthew 5:21–26

071022-“Be Reconciled With Your Brother”...Matthew 5:21-26...“You have heard that it was said to our ancestors, Do not murder, and whoever murders will be subject to judgment. But I tell you, everyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Fool!’ will be subject to the Sanhedrin. But whoever says, ‘You moron!’ will be subject to hellfire. So if you are offering your gift on the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Reach a settlement quickly with your adversary while you’re on the way with him, or your adversary will hand you over to the judge, the judge to the officer, and you will be thrown into prison. I assure you: You will never get out of there until you have paid the last penny!”

Sermon In A Sentence: Jesus teaches His followers that you cannot be right with God until you are right with man.

Jesus Commands Us To Be Reconciled With Our Brother:
-If we’re guilty of the silent murder of the heart
-If we’re guilty of the spoken murder of slander
-If we’re guilty of the self-righteous murder of condemnation

-Exodus 20:13...“Do not murder”
-Matthew 5:20...“For I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”
-2 Corinthians 5:21...“He made the One who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him”
-Matthew 23:37...“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every impurity”
-Galatians 3:26...“You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus”
-2 Peter 1:7..."…add to your godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness love…”
-John 13:35...“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
-James 1:20...“Man’s anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness”
-Matthew 12:36...“I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak”

Matthew 7
-V.1-2 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
-V.3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”

Luke 9:50
-“‘Don’t stop him,’” Jesus told him, ‘because whoever is not against us is for us.’”
