June 18, 2022 Pastor: Terry Embke Series: The Life of Jesus Christ

Topic: Study of the Life of Christ Passage: Matthew 5:13–16

061922- “You Are Salt & Light” Matthew 5:13-16...

Matthew 5:2-12 “Then He began to teach them, saying: ‘The poor in spirit are blessed, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs. Those who mourn are blessed, for they will be comforted. The gentle are blessed, for they will inherit the earth. Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness are blessed, for they will be filled. The merciful are blessed, for they will be shown mercy. The pure in heart are blessed, for they will see God. The peacemakers are blessed, for they will be called sons of God. Those who are persecuted for righteousness are blessed, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs. You are blessed when they insult and persecute you and falsely say every kind of evil against you because of Me. Be glad and rejoice, because your reward is great in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.’”

God Rewards True Disciples Who:
-Are poor in spirit— with heaven
-Mourn— with comfort
-Are gentle— with the earth
-Hunger for righteousness— with righteousness
-Are merciful— with mercy
-Are pure in heart— with eyes to see God
-Are peacemakers— with the title, sons of God
-Are persecuted— with heaven

Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who go through it. How narrow is the gate and difficult the road that leads to life, and few find it”

Sermon In A Sentence: While the unbeliever strives to make this world their kingdom by force, the believer interacts as a citizen of another kingdom.

Matthew 5:13-16 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt should lose its taste, how can it be made salty? It’s no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled on by men. You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven”

Living Jesus’ Kingdom Life In This World:
-You cannot live it in isolation
-You are the salt of the earth
-You are the light of the world
-You are a city set on a hill

Luke 6:35 “But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because He is kind to the ungrateful & the wicked”

John 8:12 “Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the
light of life.”

Ephesians 5:8 “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light— for the fruit of the light results in all goodness, righteousness, and truth”
